THE HUMAN, BY THE PARROT POINT OF VIEW

And they, the parrots, how do they consider us?
How would they describe us?
How do they perceive us?

I've wondered about it several times and, of course, there are many possible answers depending on the relationship we have with them; so either as excellent companions or potentially dangerous and unreliable persons.

They would describe as us subjects without feathers, beaks and claws, with two unfit for flight movable arms each of them ending with a protuberance (hand) useful in many functions.

They see us as social animals, capable of vocalizations, which do not always live in groups, that often, inexplicably, leave them alone for hours; animals that do not share easily their food with their flock; food so different and interesting that can be usually found behind some flap of the kitchen; companions with whom sometimes is so difficult to communicate and, despite our size, easy to manipulate for their own purposes which are usually searching for attention and companionship.

Situazione tipo:

Il vostro amico e' venuto a trovarvi e, affascinato dal vostro pennuto, si avvicina alla gabbia o al trespolo , allungando una mano per tentare un approccio, ma il vostro pappagallo lo becca vigorosamente.

Cosa pensa il pappagallo:

Aiuto! Cosa mi vuole fare questo tizio? Chi lo conosce? Cosa vuole da me?

Consiglio:

Si tratta di una normalissima e giustificata azione di autodifesa del pappagallo verso persone che non conosce e quindi percepite come potenzialmente pericolose.

E' molto importante che chiunque si avvicini al vostro pappagallo lo faccia sempre in vostra presenza, in modo tranquillo e con movimenti calmi. La cosa migliore e' portare il pappagallo distante dalla sua gabbia, per evitare eventuali problemi legati alla territorialita', quindi fate sedere vicino a voi il vostro amico spiegandogli bene come fare per far salire l'animale sulla sua mano;  se preferite, potete anche appoggiarlo sulle sue ginocchia in modo da prendere gradualmente confidenza con il vostro pennuto.
L'importante e' che i movimenti siano sempre lenti e che l'atmosfera sia rilassata, altrimenti e' meglio interrompere perche' rischiate di traumatizzare il pappagallo e di rovinare quindi il rapporto di fiducia che state cercando di costruire con lui, essenziale per avere un buon pet.
